Açık Öğretim Lisesi (AÖL) is Turkey's official distance-education high school program, designed for adults and others who did not complete conventional high school to earn a Turkish high school diploma. Operated under the Ministry of National Education (MEB) within Turkey's open and distance education system, AÖL delivers coursework via online resources and periodic in-person exams at designated centers. Enrollment typically requires registering in the AÖL system, renewing registrations each academic term (kayıt yenileme), and completing required courses to prepare for final exams. In recent years, there has been increased digitization of materials and processes, with exam schedules and results published on the official AÖL site; exam results are usually announced within weeks after each sitting. Because the AÖL diploma is recognized for higher education, graduates can apply to universities in Turkey by taking the standard university entrance exam (YKS) and meeting the relevant admission requirements.
